SHELTON Vassie Edwards Shelton, 89, died Dec. 2, 2000 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Thomas and Nonie Barden Edwards and the widow of Maurice Marion Shelton. She was retired from Giant Bakery and was a member of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Sanford Shelton of the home; two sisters, Katherine E. Weaver of Franklin and Martha E. Bishop of Carrsville; four brothers, L.T. Edwards, Cecil Edwards, William R. Edwards and Robert J. Edwards, all of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Grace E. Whitfield and Manie E. Wilson; one brother, Marvin T. Edwards; and stepmother, Elma B. Edwards. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wrignt Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The family will receive friends at the home of Katherine Weaver at 168 Covey Circle, Franklin. Vassie (EDWARDS; Mrs. Maurice M.)
