Mrs. Snipes death occurred at Randolph Field, Texas, where she had been spending some time with Capt. and Mrs. J.T. Sprague. Mrs. Sprague, who was before marriage Miss Elizabeth Rogers of Sussex County, a former teacher in the Franklin High School who numbered many friends here. Mrs. Snipes, who was 49 years of age, had been ill with influenza but was considered convalescent when she sustained a heart attack from which she did not recover. Her only child, Lieutenant William E. Snipes, Jr. who is with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., flew to Texas to accompany his mother’s body to Franklin, which arrived here last Saturday morning. Funeral rites were conducted at the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery by her pastor, the Rev. B.B. Bland of High Street Methodist Church, Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Pallbearers were: Franklin Edwards, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, Jno. C. Parker, Jr., Alfred Beaman of Norfolk, Hinson Parker, J. Fenton Matthews, Dr. Morgan B. Raiford and Dr. J.P. Broaddus. Mrs. Snipes was the daughter of the late James Marion Story and Mrs. Pattie Beaman Story, prominent residents of Franklin and besides her son, Wm. E. Snipes, Jr. is survived by three brothers, Dr. Beaman Story of Franklin, Walter F. Story of Suffolk and James Marion Story; by a sister, Mrs. Herman Cobb of this town, several nieces and nephews and a large family connection. She was the widow of the late Dr. William Elwood Snipes a well-known dentist of Franklin, who died in 1930.
