Diltz Payne. Burial was in Capron Cemetery with Wright Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were: Cedric Casper, J.W. Casper, Robert Story, Paul Daughtrey and Clyde Reynolds. Smith died Thursday in his home. A native of Edenton, N.C., he was the husband of the late Doris Casper Smith. He was a retired commercial fisherman and also a retired guard for the State Department of Corrections. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a grandson, R. Keith Smith of the home; four sons, Carroll J. Smith of Petersburg, John W. Smith of Branchville, Lewis A. Smith of Petersburg, and Kenny R. Smith of Capron; five sisters, Agnes S. Brimridge of Edenton, N.C., Sadie S. Stallings of Virginia Beach, Janie O’Neal of Virginia Beach, Bertha S. Light of Eden, N.C., and Elizabeth S. Smith of Ahoskie, N.C.; two brothers, Haywood G. Smith of Roanoke and D. Minton Smith of Edenton; and 13 grandchildren.
