Prior to the illness that claimed her as a victim about three weeks ago, she had been remarkably active and enjoyed good health. She was suddenly stricken with pleurisy, which with heart failure, resulted in her death. She was one of the oldest citizens of this community and for many years a consistent and loyal member of the Hebron church. Toward her fellowman she was ever kind and gentle, wearing a smile always and manifesting in her everyday life her unfailing trust in God to whose will she was ever submissive and faithful. During her entire illness there was never a complaint or utterance of impatience or distrust, but she bore in meekness and humility the burden of the Cross that led her to the happy home of rest beyond the skies. Amid many beautiful floral offerings and a large crowd of friends and loved ones her body was laid to rest in the family plot of the Hebron cemetery, Rev. S.G Callison of Drewryville conducting the service. Miss Mildred Smith, daughter of Dr. J. W. Smith, who so carefully attended her throughout her illness, sang very sweetly and touchingly, "Sometime, Somewhere, We’ll Understand". The active pallbearers were W. Hugh Powell, George Powell, Grover Powell, Franklin Powell, Herman Powell, Hunter Powell, Hinton Smith and Willie Smith. She is survived by five children, Mrs. R.E. Ford of Kingsford, Va., Reuben and Walter Smith, Mrs. Ed Jones and Mrs. Henry Smith of the Hebron community and John Powell of Petersburg and a large number of other relatives.
