BOYKINS - Reuben Cleveland Smith Sr., 79, died Monday in his home near here. He was the husband of Mrs. Ethel Rawlings Smith and a son of Henry L. and Mrs. Emma Powell Smith. He was a retired merchant and farmer and a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Gordan J. Lewis and Mrs. J. Russell Lewis of Stony Creek, Mrs. Wallace J. Winslow Jr. of Suffolk and Miss Dorothy Annie Smith of Raleigh; a son, Reuben C. Smith, Jr. of Boykins; a sister, Mrs. Sallie D. Smith of Boykins; and six grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in McDowell Funeral Home by the Rev. Dalphon J. Thompson and the Rev. Richard C. Scott. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marcus Harrell, Willie Harrell, Leon Bunch, J.C. Bunch, Jr., Paul Gregory, and Clifford Perry. ****************************************************************************** REUBEN CLEVELAND SMITH Funeral services for Reuben Cleveland Smith, Sr., 79, who died at his residence Monday evening at 9:15 p.m., were conducted Wednesday March 3, at 2:30 p.m. in the McDowell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dalphon J. Thompson, former pastor of the Hebron Bapt. Church officiating and assisted by the Rev. C. Richard Scott, pastor of the Boykins Methodist Charge. Burial was in the Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Smith was the husband of Mrs. Ethel Livingston Rawlings Smith, and a son of the late Henry Lawrence and Mrs. Emma Thomas Powell Smith. He was a well known merchant and prominent farmer in this area. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Gordon J. Lewis and Mrs. J. Russell Lewis, both of Stony Creek, Mrs. Wallace J. Winslow Jr. of Suffolk, Miss Dorothy A. Smith of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Reuben C. Smith, Jr. of Boykins; one sister, Mrs. Sallie D. Smith of Boykins; and 6 grandchildren.
