Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Herbert Rountree, J.C. Johnson, Delbert Whitehead, Jimmy Presson, Ralph Flowers, David Rideout, Robert Crumpler, and Georgia Burgess. Smith a native of Beaufort, N.C., died Monday in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. He was the husband of Mrs. Berta Johnson Smith. He was a boiler operator for Union Camp Corp., and was a retired Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Franklin Mormon Church. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ester Babb of Courtland; a son, Ronnie Dean Smith of Capron; three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Bradshaw of Franklin, Mrs. Elnora Hedgepeth of Chuckatuck and Mrs. Viola Ivey of Suffolk; a brother, Irby Dean Smith of Austell, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
