Smith, died on March 10, after an illness of two weeks at the home of her son, Joseph M. Kelley, in Reading [sic], Penn., with whom she was spending the Winter. Mrs. Smith is surviving by a daughter, Mrs. Lottie K. Joyner of Joyner; two sons, Joseph M. Kelley of Reading, Penn., and W. Booker Smith of Ivor; a brother, H.T. Grizzard of Drewryville, thirteen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from the home of her daughter at Joyner conducted by Rev. L.F. Callahan of Wakefield. Interment was made in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, the active pallbearers being P.B. Edwards, Jr., E.C. Judkins, J.L. Whitehorn, W.H. Whitehorn, B.L. Raikes and C.E. Joyner. The casket was covered with a pall of rosebuds and fern. Wyomissing is just outside Reading. She 1m. Joseph E. KELLEY (1858 - 1883), son of John E. & Sarah A.E. KELLEY. Ancestry.com "VA Select Marriages 1785-1940," gives 2 dates: 14 Jan 1881 in Sussex Co., citing p. 42 #11; & 2 Feb 1881 in Sussex Co., giving b. Greensville Co., citing p. 34 #19. He is buried in the Old Bettie Grizzard Cemetery, Sussex Co. (Find a Grave Memorial #186215461) The cemetery is described as being on Fortsville Rd., 4 miles from both Adam's Grove & Drewryville - both of which lie in Southampton Co. Fortsville Rd. (Rt. 612) runs from Drewryville NNW into the southern tip of Sussex Co., where it ends at Grizzard Rd. (Rt. 612). She 2m. widower Joseph David SMITH (1837 - 1902) in 1893 in Sussex Co. He was a Confederate veteran. He initially served as a private in Co. B, 9th VA Infantry, and was wounded at Malvern Hill. He then served two years as a recruiter in Southampton Co. He then enlisted in Co. C, 13th VA Cavalry. His obit & details of his service are posted with Find a Grave Memorial #210467407, which gives burial location unknown. Sallie applied for a CS widow's pension 20 May 1932. It seems most likely that the text is wrong, that Sallie is buried with her daughter Lottie (KELLEY; Mrs. James Fenton) JOYNER (1882 - 1961) in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Yale, Sussex Co. Her brother Henry Thomas GRIZZARD is buried in Thomas Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Drewryville.
