SMITH CAPRON - Mrs. Thelma Griffin Smith, 56, died Wednesday [sic; Monday] in her home after a brief illness. A native of Southampton County, she was the wife of Vernie Smith and a daughter of the late Norfleet E. and Mrs. Fannie Pope Griffin. She was a member of Boykins Methodist Church. Besides her husband, surviving are three foster sons, Paul P. Outland of Portsmouth, and Rene Outland and John E. Outland of Capron; two sisters, Miss Carrie Lee Griffin of Richmond and Mrs. Cleo G. Edwards of Boykins; and a brother, Frank R. Griffin of Boykins. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Boykins Methodist Church by the Rev. Daniel Ivey.
