Smith, father of Mrs. John E. Ray, 3d. Mr. Smith’s death was the result of cerebral thrombosis suffered earlier in the day. The deceased had made his home in Southern Pines for the past four years. Prior to that he had resided in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he represented the British American Tobacco Co. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Ellis Smith of Southern Pines; one daughter, Mrs. John E. Ray, 3d, of Franklin; two sons, Thomas W. Smith, Jr.*, and William Ellis Smith, both living in South America; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Southern Pines this (Friday) afternoon. The family request no flowers.
