All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM ALFRED SMITH William Alfred Smith, Sr., 75, well known resident of Franklin, died Tuesday morning after a lingering illness in Raiford Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of Bertie County, N.C. He moved to Franklin about 40 years ago. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, William A. Smith, Jr., of Tarzana, Calif., and Otis Smith and Spencer Smith, of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. R.J. Jones, of Norfolk; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J.T. Perry of Norfolk; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Holland Funeral Home chapel Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. Cecil Clifton. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
