All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALFRED DUNCAN SMITHWICK Alfred Duncan Smithwick, 71, a resident of the Franklin community for the past 28 years, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 7, after several months of ill health. A native of Bertie County, N.C., Mr. Smithwick was the son of the late William H. and Mary Mitchell Smithwick. After 10 years in the employ of Camp Manufacturing Co., Mr. Smithwick had engaged in farming in Isle of Wight County. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Stella Fagan Smithwick of Franklin; two brothers, L.J. Smithwick of Norfolk and George A. Smithwick of Blaine, Wash.; and two sisters, Mrs. Sue Kenney and Mrs. George Wills of Windsor, N.C. Final rites were conducted at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Thursday morning at 11 o’clock by Revs. James W. Turner and J.S. Maxey of High Street Methodist Church. Acting as pallbearers were L.E. Bailey, Joe Gay Boone, Clifton Daughtrey, T.C. Holland, Jr., John Mitchell, John H. Panton, Jesse A. Weede, Jr., and H.L. Westbrook.
