Born August 19, 1898, she taught for years in the Petersburg school system. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Protestant Episcopal Church, Courtland, Va. and a member of Southampton Historical Society and Museum of Fine Arts. She is survived by a sister, Bessie T. Shands of the home; a brother, William R. Shands of Richmond; a nephew, niece, great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, in Riverside Cemetery, by the Rev. James W. Browder III. Wright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
