All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH FREDERICK SANDLIN Joseph Frederick Sandlin, 66, electrical contractor, died early Saturday morning, September 17, in a Richmond hospital after several month’s illness. He was the son of the late Robert Edward and Dora Stephenson Sandlin of Verona, N.C. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 151 and a past master of this lodge. He came to Franklin in 1918, connected with the Western Union Telegraph Company, and a few years late opened an electrical business. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Davis Sandlin, of Franklin; two sons, Robert E. Sandlin of Franklin and Joseph E. Sandlin of Southern Pines, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Madeline S. Edwards and Mrs. Frances S. Eley, both of Windsor; Mrs. Dora A. Laney of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Louise S. Dyer of Richmond; one brother, E. Sandlin of Savannah, Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. William Harr of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Bert Hugghes and Mrs. D.N. Calhoun of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. C.J. Roberts of Cincinnati, Ohio, and 12 grandchildren. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, where funeral service were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by Rev. Harvey L. Carnes, pastor of the Congregational Christian Church, and Rev. William Grissom, pastor of the Windsor Christian Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Joseph P. King, Sr., Franklin Edwards, Harry Jones, B.T. Watkins, Dr. Beaman Story and Otis Joyner of Courtland. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Reed of Atlanta, Ga.; Allen Drewry, Walter Manning, Reuben Edwards and Mr. Miller, all of Portsmouth; Jimmy Spencer and Mr. Rockefeller of Norfolk; Sidney Eason of Carrsville; Dr. J.A. Murray of Franklin and friends of the family.
