All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELIZABETH VIRGINIA RAWLS SAUNDERS FRANKLIN - Elizabeth Virginia "Libby" Rawls Saunders, former clerk of Franklin District Court who also was active in community groups, died Nov. 27. Mrs. Saunders’ career in public service spanned 30 years. It began in the 1950's when she worked for Franklin’s Police Department. She continued to work in clerical positions and eventually began doing court work. In 1976, Mrs. Saunders was voted Franklin’s First Citizen by the Business and Professional Women’s Club. The award was given based on Mrs. Saunders’ cultural, civic, educational, social and charitable contributions to the community. She was past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of Franklin Women’s Club and Southampton Temple 15 Pythian Sisters. Mrs. Saunders was also a member of Franklin Little Theater and Franklin Baptist Church and a charter member of Southampton Historical Society. She was a native of Franklin and the widow of Herbert Saunders. Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Todd of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Linda Kelly of Sebring, Fla. The graveside service was conducted Monday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Clingenpeel. Elizabeth Virginia "Libby" (RAWLS; Mrs. Herbert H.)
