Saunders, mayor of Ivor from 1945 until 1960 and a member of the Southampton County planning commission, died Wednesday at this home. He was 71. Mr. Saunders was a salesman for 38 years for the Weaver Fertilizer Co. in Norfolk until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Ivor Ruritan Club, the B&B Hunt Club and the Ivor Baptist Church and was chairman of the Southampton County Electoral Board. His is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Saunders; a son, Homer S. Saunders, Jr. of Atlanta, and a sister, Mrs. Richard H. Friday at Purviance Funeral Chapel in Wakefield with burial in the Ivor Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** H S Saunders, 71, Ex-Ivor Mayor And Councilman Ivor - Homer Stuart Saunders, 71, former mayor of Ivor, died Wednesday morning in his home. A lifelong resident of Ivor*, he was the husband of Mrs. Carolyn St Clair Saunders. He had been a salesman 38 years for Weaver Fertilizer Co in Norfolk. He retired in 1972. He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, former member of Southampton County Planning Commission, former town councilman, and served as mayor from 1945 to 1960. He was chairman of Southampton County School Electoral Board and member of Ivor Ruritan Club and B & B Hunt Club. He attended the University of Richmond and was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Other survivors include a son, Homer S. Saunders, Jr. of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Richard H. Pulley Sr. of Ivor; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 2 pm in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev J.L. Buckingham. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery.
