Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm in the West Baptist Church, Windsor by Rev B A Riddle, pastor, assisted by Rev Sidney Cobb. Interment will follow in Windsor Cemetery. The body is presently resting in the R W Baker Funeral Home in Suffolk and will be taken to the West Baptist Church tomorrow at noon to lie in state there until 3 pm. The son of the late Stephen L & Eva [sic*] Bishop Saunders, of Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, the deceased was for 30 years a member of West Baptist Church and of its Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Mabel Robinson Saunders; four sons, J D Saunders, Jr of Windsor, M M Saunders of Windsor, J B Saunders of Windsor, and H L Saunders of Hopewell, Va. Also four daughters, Mrs George Whitley of Windsor; Mrs J T Parham of Windsor; Mrs J Q Fowler of Franklin and Mrs Virginia S Gray of Roanoke; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** J. A son of the late Stephen L. and Eva Bishop Saunders of Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, he was custodian of the Windsor High School for 27 years, and was a member of the Windsor Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mabel Robinson Saunders, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. George Whitley and Mrs. J.T. Parham of Windsor, Mrs J.Q. Fowler of Franklin, and Mrs. Virginia S. Gray of Roanoke; four sons, J.D. Saunders, Jr., M.N. Saunders, and J.B. Saunders of Windsor, and H.L. Saunders of Hopewell; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Windsor Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. B.A. Riddle, pastor of the Church, assisted by the Rev J. Sidney Cobb. Burial was in Windsor Cemetery. The D.Cert. & obits confuse his daughter's name - Eva Adelaide - with his mother, Lydia Adelaide, dt/o Stith H. & Harriett (STORY) BISHOP. She m. Stephen Lee SAUNDERS 1 Mar 1877 (Southampton Co. MB3:134). Her brother Walter Stith BISHOP is buried in the BISHOP family cemetery off Sunbeam Rd. on the farm where he was born & died; presumably their father is also buried there. MARTIN, 17 Apr 1926, in Suffolk. She is buried in with her first husband in Newman Memorial Cemetery. Stephen's Find a Grave Mem. #7277297 also gives buried in Newman Memorial Cemetery, but his D.Cert. (19070 {Richmond #2193}) gives buried Smithfield, 25 Sep 1945.
