Saunders died at his home in Courtland Saturday, October 22, 1927, after an illness of a few weeks. He had been in failing health for some time and his death was not a surprise to his friends. Mr. Saunders was 77 years old on the 17th of October, 1927. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o’clock, Sunday, October 23, by his Pastor, Rev. Kenneth E. Burke, and he was laid to rest in the Saunders burying ground at Story. Mr. Saunders was a retired farmer and had lived in Courtland since leaving the farm. He was a faithful and loyal member of the Courtland Baptist Church. Most of his life had been spent in Southampton County and he was highly respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. J.H. Adams of the Franklin community, and Mrs. Annie Hudson of Suffolk, and two sons, John T. Saunders, Jr., of the Franklin community and Robert L. Saunders of Holland. John T.
