SIMMONS The sad death of Mr. B.O. Simmons which occurred last Sunday night a few minutes after 8 o'clock has cast a gloom over the neighborhood. He was buried at Sebrell in the old Simmons burying ground where a large concourse of relatives and friends paid their last tribute of respect. An old friend of his Mr. John I. Turner read the burial service. During the filling in of the grave that beautiful song, "Asleep in Jesus" was rendered by his friends. He leaves a wife and eight children, out of them Mrs. J.N. Rowe, is his first wife's daughter, seven grandchildren, two brothers, A.M. Simmons of Upson, Va. and C.H. Simmons of Branchville, two sisters, Mrs. R.T. Spain of Chub, Va. and Mrs. J.A. Smith of Dendron, Va. He was a member of Oak Grove M.E. Church, Littleton, Va. and was a devoted husband and a kind and faithful parent. He served four years in the Civil War, belonging to the Third Va. Infantry Pickett's Division. He was 68 years old June 22, 1910.* Benjamin O. Barrett (Southampton Co. MB5:529) His widow applied for a pension 24 Apr 1928. She was living in Petersburg with her son A.T. She is buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
