All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES HENRY SIMMONS Charles Henry Simmons, son of Tom and Martha Simmons, died at the home of his son, Howard C. Simmons, in Sedley December 21, 1930, after a long illness, being confined to his bed six months. He was born near Sebrell, August 22, 1853, and lived in this county all of his life. He was twice married, first to Miss Cherry Knight who lived only a short time, he then married Miss Virginia Miles, who survives him and who was his companion for 47 years. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, a consistent Christian and a faithful church worker and was a deacon in his church for more than 20 years. In addition to his widow he survived by four children, Joseph S. Simmons of Capron, Howard C. Simmons of Sedley, Mrs. J.H. Grizzard of Branchville, and Mrs. R.P. Revelle of Newsoms, 18 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Nettie Smith, of Washington, N.C. Funeral services were held in the home of his son by Rev. J. Sidney Cobb and were concluded at the grave by his Pastor, Rev. A.W. Coates. Interment was made in Newsoms Cemetery Monday afternoon, the pallbearers being his nephews.
