All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FRANK THOMAS SIMMONS Frank Thomas Simmons died at the home of his grandson, Herbert Ellis, near Newsoms, March 31, in the 78th year of his life. He had been in poor health for the past 12 years. Mr. Simmons was born November 2, 1852, in the Boykins community, and married Miss Martha Channing* in 1871 who died in 1884. In 1886 he married Miss Bettie Smith who died in 1897. His third marriage was to Mrs. Rhoda Carter in 1899, and she died in 1910. Since that time he had made his home with his oldest daughter, Mrs. George Ellis, spending part of his time with some of his other children and grandchildren. Mr. Simmons is survived by four daughters and one son; Mrs. George Ellis of Newsoms, Sam J. Simmons of Franklin, Mrs. C.B. Felts and Mrs. Ben Butler of Rosemary, and Mrs. Logan Bland of Portsmouth; two brothers, William and Joe Simmons of Rosemary; 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, besides many friends. Funeral services were conducted by his Pastor, Rev. L.E. Dailey of the Newsoms Baptist Church where Mr. Simmons had been a member for many years. The body bearers were grandsons of Mr. Simmons: Herbert, Bennie, Willie, Pete and Stanton Ellis and Hazzie Crowder.
