Simmons was conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Robert D. Fridley. W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Edward F. Gilliam, W.H. Goodwin, Tyree Thomas, Bennie Bunn, E.A. Davis, W.R. Atkinson Jr., Farley Powers and J. Edward Moyler. Simmons died Friday in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Walter and Mrs. Nancy Caroon Simmons and the husband of Mrs. Alexander Orchard Simmons. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War I. He was a retired farmer and formerly was associated with Steinhardt-Goodwin Equipment Co.
