Simmons, died May 18, 1930, after an illness of more than two years which she bore with patience and cheerfulness. She was the daughter of the late Richard J. Kello and Mrs. Maud Thomas Kello and was born in Southampton County near Vicksville at the old Zeb Kello place October 2, 1872 Early in life she became a member of Applewhite’s Methodist Church where she was a loyal and faithful communicant. She became the bride of William Butts Simmons, Sr., Dec. 12, 1893. She was a good woman and did well her part as wife and mother. Besides her husband she is survived by a son, W.B. Simmons, Jr.; three grandchildren, Mary Sue, William, III, and Marguerite Simmons; one sister, Miss Mattie Owen Kello; three brothers, J.G., S.T., and J.R. Kello, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment was made in the family burying ground at the Kello home near Courtland. The services were conducted by Rev. C.H. Fielding and Rev. W.H. Riddick. The body bearers were: Dr. J.N. Applewhite, Jesse Vick, A.B. Nicholson, S.V. Camp, J.M. Nicholson, Sam Cobb, O.G. Porter and John Vincent, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: C.W. Vinson, Vernon Drake, J.T. Barham, C.R. Wade, A.E. Briggs, Lee Felts, T.A. Saunders, R.L. Nicholson, W.B. Hall, Ben MaHood, Ben Applewhite, Ed Marks, S.R. Westbrook, R.A. Simmons and Charlie Rowe. May God comfort those hearts that are lonely. They sorrow but they have a glowing hope that she has gone to her heavenly home. Among relatives and friends from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Johnson, Miss Jennie Cobb, O.G. Porter, Samuel Kello, Misses Mary and Eleanora Warren, and Miss White of Portsmouth, Miss Sadie Anderson of Hampton, Miss Elizabeth Vincent, J.E. Vincent, and J.E.
