She was the widow of the late Samuel H. Simmons, and is survived by ten children, Misses Maggie, Lucile, Dona, Bettie and Eva Mae Simmons, Mrs. E. L. Allen, Roy and Moncure Simmons of Boykins, Mrs. A.F. Webb of Gloucester, and H.B. Simmons of Suffolk; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J.T. Rawls of Capron and Mrs. Martha Applewhite of Portsmouth; five brothers, E.A. Felts of Capron, L.D. Felts of Sebrell, J.B. Felts of Boykins, B.E. Felts of Branchville, C.B. Felts of Rosemary, N.C., and a half- brother, S.F. Vick of Boykins, and a large family connection. Mrs. Simmons, who was Miss Nannie Felts was born near Boykins at the old Felts home January 22, 1867, the daughter of Nathaniel and Mrs. Martha Felts. She spent her entire life in the Boykins community with the exception of a few years which she spent in Boykins being proprietress of the Tidewater Inn. She had been a member of Boykins Baptist Church since girlhood, and her membership extending over a period of 49 years, was the longest on the church register. She was a loyal and consecrated Christian, faithful to all the duties and obligations of her church. Funeral services were held in the Boykins Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Frank B. Handley, assisted by Rev. R.L. Haga, pastor of Boykins M.E. Church and Rev. A.W. Coates of Drewryville. Special music was given by Mrs. H.M. Purviance and Rev. R.L. Haga, supplemented by the joint choirs of the town, accompanied by Miss Retta Hart at the piano. The T.E.L. Class, of which Mrs. Simmons was a member, acted as flower bearers, marching from the home to the church as an escort. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery amid a profusion of floral offerings, a large number of friends and relatives gathering to pay their last tribute of love and respect. The pallbearers were: H.T. Smith, R.E. Ferguson, George A. Powell, H.G. Coleman, F. E. Pope of Drewryville, J.R. Person, H.A. Moore, B.F. Britt and A.L. Knight. Nannie Bettie (FELTS; Mrs. Samuel H.)
