SAMUEL RAYMOND SIMMONS 

   NEWSOMS - Funeral services for Samuel Raymond Simmons, 75, retired farmer, 
who died Tuesday afternoon in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, N.C., were 
conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Barnes Methodist Church by Rev. B.W. Coe, 
pastor, and Rev. E.E. Ballard of Buckhorn Baptist Church.

   Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Gilbert Whitley, 
Ashley Darden, Thomas Dougherty, Martin Cobb, Gardner Britt, Stanley Myrick, 
Harry G. Barrett, Jr., and H.A. Barrett, Jr.

His parents, Walter V. & "Nannie Bet" (CAROON) SIMMONS, 
   are buried in a CAROON family cemetery, on Statesville Rd.
