Simmons, 69, died Thursday in McGuire’s Veteran’s Hospital, Richmond, after an illness of several weeks. He was a retired watchman of Southern Johns Manville Produce Corporation, Jarratt, and a former resident of Southampton County. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Vera Bell Simmons, four daughters Miss Louise Simmons and Mrs. Jean Joyner of Jarratt, Mrs. Alice Pope of Boykins, and Mrs. Joyce Conner of Richmond; three sons, Bobby Simmons and T.O. Simmons, Jr., of Jarratt, and Alfred Simmons of Norfolk; one brother, J.W. Simmons of Cobb Creek; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Williams of Surry, Mrs. Carrie Jackson of Texas, Mrs. Lizzie Ellis of Richmond and Mrs. Ora Seal of Disputanta, and 16 grandchildren. A funeral service for Mr. Simmons was held Saturday afternoon in the Centenary Methodist Church, Jarratt at 2 p.m. with burial in the Sebrell cemetery, at Sebrell.
