All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VIRGINIA REBECCA MILES HARRIS SIMMONS Mrs. Virginia Rebecca Simmons, 90, widow of Charles Henry Simmons, died at 8:40 o'clock Saturday night, July 21, at the home in Branchville of her son, Howard Clyde Simmons. She was the oldest member of Hebron Baptist Church. Surviving her are two sons, Howard Clyde Simmons of Branchville, and Joseph Samuel Simmons of Sebrell; two daughters, Mrs. Lorene Grizzard of Suffolk and Mrs. Elizabeth Revelle of Franklin; and 18 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons were conducted at Hebron Church on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. H.B. Jennings of Drewryville, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin and Rev. J.W. Simmons of Dixie, Mathews County. The choir sang "How Firm A Foundation" and " Sometime We'll Understand," accompanied by Mrs. Otis Davis on the organ. At the grave in Newsoms Cemetery, where interment was made, the choir sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." The casket was covered with a pall of white roses and white carnations. The services were largely attended. The active pallbearers were grandson of the deceased; Bennie B. Grizzard, Charles A. Grizzard, James O. Grizzard, Lionel A. Grizzard, John S. Revelle, Richard T. Revelle, Howard C. Simmons, Jr., J.P. Simmons, Malcolm Simmons and Wallace Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Virginia Rebecca (MILES HARRIS; Mrs. Charles H.)
