High Street. Eight years ago she had suffered a severe coronary attack and was hospitalized for some time, but she recovered sufficiently to make visits to many places, some far away. The immediate cause of her death was a fall she had on January 2, in which she broke her hip and from which she never recovered. She was the widow of the late Frank L. Thigpen and the daughter of the late William E. and Martha Jane Rawls of Southampton County. Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Ida Thigpen Eley of Suffolk, 14 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. "Miss Mamie", as she was known to her friends, had lived here all her life with the exception of eight years when she lived near Tarboro, N.C., after her marriage and until the death of her husband. Even after she returned to Virginia, she never missed an opportunity to attend the Primitive Baptist Associations and the regular church services when she was able to get to them. In her active life she was always ready and willing to help anybody in time of need, and when she was inactive, she never complained, but still wanted to give help to others. Nothing gave her more pleasure than the company of friends, and especially of young people. Funeral services for Mrs. Thigpen were held from her home on S. High Street Saturday, January 13 at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. John Stephenson, pastor of the Franklin Presbyterian Church and interment followed in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Eley, Jr., Hassell Thigpen, Sidney Barrett, Jr., Jim Rawls, W.R. Atkinson, Jr., and Dr. T.A. Morgan. [Mary Rebecca (RAWLS; Mrs. Frank L.)
