All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SAMUEL CICERO THIGPEN Samuel Cicero Thigpen, 38, a native of Avera, Ga., and for the past 13 years a resident of Franklin, died suddenly at the residence, 802 Chestnut Street, of a heart attack on Tuesday morning, January 27. Mr. Thigpen was the husband of Mrs. Helen Collins Thigpen of Franklin, and the son of the late Edgar and Mattie Jane Roney Thigpen of Georgia. He was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday school and as an elder. He was also a member of the Franklin post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served as a Marine in World War II. Mr. Thigpen was a former owner of the Southampton Woodworking Company; and at the time of his death was connectied with the Silas S. Kea Construction Company of Ivor. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Rae and Adrian Elizabeth Thigpen, both of Franklin; two brothers, James Thigpen of Augusta, Ga. and Joseph Thigpen of Avera, Ga.; and three sisters, Mrs. J.C. Johnson, Mrs. Emory Johnson and Mrs. L.M. Hopkins, all of Augusta. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons, with Rev. T.T. Traynham, pastor of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being John Brenner, R. Baird Cabell, Tulane Duncan, W.M. Faircloth, Sam Mitchell, Robert Steadham and Linwood Vaughan.
