RICKS THOMPSON COURTLAND - Mrs. Maggie Ricks Thompson, 90, widow of John Albert Thompson, died Wednesday morning in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Mildred C. Edwards, after a long illness. A native of Illinois, she lived in Southampton County 80 years. She was a daughter of Edwin and Mrs. Mary Britt Ricks and a member of Courtland Methodist Church and its Woman’s Society of Christian Service. Besides her granddaughter, surviving are three sons, Lewis B. Thompson of Courtland and Wray C. Thompson and Leslie E. Thompson of West Point; three daughters, Mrs. Pat Cotton of Franklin, Mrs. Carter Burt of Richmond and Mrs. Crawford R. Wade of Mechanicsville; a sister, Mrs. Sidney Cook of Colonial Heights; four brothers, Willie Ricks of Camden, N.C., Roy Ricks of Fayetteville, N.C., Ruben Ricks, of Tampa and Herbert Ricks of Richmond; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Courtland Methodist Church by the Rev. Bryon S. Halstead, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Lee Bailey of Courtland Baptist Church. Burial was in Capron Cemetery. Pallbearers were Melvin Thompson, Alton Thompson, Glenn Thompson, Grayson Thompson, Francis Cotton, Humphrey Wade, Crawford Wade, Jr. and Gerald Burt. Margaret C.
