All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CARL CLEVELAND THORPE Carl Cleveland Thorpe, 59, died at his home near Newsoms at 10:25 o’clock Wednesday night, June 25, after a long illness. He was a lifelong member of Barnes Methodist Church and a member of the Men’s Sunday School class of Newsoms Methodist Church. Mr. Thorpe was the son of the late Argal Bernard Thorpe and Carolyn* Ferguson Thorpe. Surviving are his wife, Geneva Ferguson Thorpe; two sons, Carl C. Thorpe of Newsoms and James Ray Thorpe of Blacksburg; two daughters, Catherine and Pearl Thorpe, both of Newsoms; two brothers, A.J. and L.W. Thorpe of Lake City, S.C.; two sister, Mrs. Joe Harrell and Mrs. Alice Carter, both of Effingham, S.C.; a granddaughter, Marion Elizabeth Thorpe of Newsoms; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon at three o’clock with Rev. J.W. Morrison officiating, assisted by Rev. F.L. Baker of Richmond. Burial was in the Newsoms cemetery.
