Thorpe of the Statesville community died at her home Tuesday after a lingering illness. In her 64th year, Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth Thorpe was the widow of V.D. Thorpe and the daughter of the late Richard A. and Mrs. Martha Everett Barrett. She was a loyal and consistent member of Barnes Methodist Church, an exemplary Christian character, a good and generous neighbor in her home community. She is survived by two sons, V.D. Thorpe, Jr., of the U.S. Army and R.D. Thorpe of Newsoms; one daughter, Mrs. R.T. Butler of Newsoms; a sister, Mrs. R.B. Bryant of Como and three brothers, T.H. Barrett and Hugh A. Barrett of the community and J.E. Barrett of Carrsville. Funeral services were conducted from her late residence yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. L.G. Tinnell.
