GENEVA (MARCIE) FERGUSON THORPE 

Mrs. Geneva (Marcie) Ferguson Thorpe, age 76, of Newsoms, died Sunday, 
May 14, 1978, at her residence.  A native of Southampton County, she 
was the widow of Carl Cleveland Thorpe, Sr.  She was a member of the 
Newsoms Baptist Church.  Surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Catherine 
Walter of Clinton, Md. and Mrs. Pearl Newsome, of Emporia; two stepsons, 
C.C. Thorpe, Jr. of Newsoms and James Ray Thorpe of Suitland, Md.; four 
sisters, Mrs. Lila Moore and Mrs. Elsie Ferguson, both of Portsmouth, 
Mrs. Louise Fuller of Courtland, Miss Ethel Mae Ferguson of Petersburg; 
one brother, Hugh Ferguson of Emporia; eight grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3 P.M. in 
the Newsoms Baptist Church.  Burial in Newsoms Cemetery. McDowell Funeral 
Home, Boykins, in charge of arrangements.
