THORNE BURIED IN POPLAR SPRING Mrs. Nancy Lou Hines Thorne, 75, wife of the late Roland Lee Thorne, and daughter of the late John E. Hines and Martha Hines, died at the home of her daughter, 1700 McDaniel Avenue, Portsmouth, Sunday, July 18, at 7:22 p.m. Mrs. Thorne was a native of Isle of Wight County but had made her home with her daughter in Portsmouth for the past fifteen years on account of ill health. Mrs. Thorne was a member of Colosse Baptist Church, and of the Peggy Johnson Circle of its Woman’s Missionary Society. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R.B. Vaughan, of Portsmouth; one son, S. Henry Thorne, of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. D.W. Stephens and Mrs. A.O. Eley, both of Carrsville; three brothers, Robert Hines of Carrsville, and Stephen A. Hines and Ernest Hines, both of Zuni; and two grandchildren, Miss Anne Carleton Vaughan, of Richmond and Beverley Vaughan, of Portsmouth. Funeral services were conducted last Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Colosse Baptist Church, by her pastor, the Rev. Curtis Hoffman and the Rev. J.W. Wood, of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Pallbearers were Curtis Hines, John W. Stephens, Wilber T. Thorne, Presley Carr, Marvin Johnson, R.H. Powell, Jr., Theodore Miller and Reginald Vaughan.
