FRANKLIN - Funeral services for James Otis Tharrington, Jr., 67, were held Friday in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Edward Noble. Burial was in Poplar Spring cemetery. Tharrington died Wednesday in Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Blythe Tharrington and a native of Macon, N.C. He was a retired press operator of St. Regis Paper Co. and an Army veteran of World War II. Other survivors include two daughters, Peggy Tharrington of Dunbar, and Mary T. Holland of Windsor; a son, James O. Tharrington III of Portsmouth; three sisters, Katherine T. Bryant of Franklin, Mildred Simonton of Crewe, and Annie L. Bullard of Springfield; and four grandchildren.
