All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES HERBERT TURNER Charlie Herbert Turner, 79, retired farmer and resident of Franklin, died at the home on the Franklin-Courtland Boulevard of his daughter, Mrs. Catherine Turner Pile, on Monday morning, February 21, after several months of failing health. The deceased was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Jane Bunch Turner and the son of the late Matthew and Lucille Lamkin Turner [sic*] of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its Bruner Bible Class. Besides Mrs. Pile he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Harvey W. Cutchins [sic; Cutchin**], Mrs. Leroy H. Vaughan and Miss Marie Turner, all of Franklin; two sons, Charlie Herbert Turner, Jr., of Suffolk and Matthew Turner of Franklin; a brother, Richard J. Turner of Zuni; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Turner of Smithfield. Services for Mr. Turner were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were R.H. Allen, H.E. Byrd, Richard E. Carter, Gardner E. Cobb, John L. Eley, Jr., Thomas M. Grizzard, R.R. Lankford and Ashley Vaughan. His D.Cert. 4908 (Franklin #13) gives his mother as Lucile Lamkin; his daughter Catherine was the informant. His brothers William Rbt., Frank M. & Richard Jas. TURNER, and their sister Lizzie (Mrs. Frank B.) TURNER are all buried in Central Hill Baptist Church.
