Turner Dies After Illness FRANKLIN - Charlie Herbert Turner, 79, retired farmer of Franklin, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Catherine Turner Pile on the Courtland-Franklin Highway after an illness of many months. Turner was married to the late Mary Bunch Turner and the son of the late Matthew and Lucille Lamkin [sic*] Turner of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Bruner Bible Class. Besides Mrs. Pile, he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Harvey W. Cutchins [sic; Cutchin*], Mrs. Leroy H. Vaughan and Miss Marie Turner, all of Franklin; two sons, Charlie Herbert Turner, Jr., of Suffolk, and Matthew Turner of Franklin; one brother, Richard J. Turner of Zuni; one sister, Mrs. Frank Turner of Smithfield, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons, here, where services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by the Rev. Ira Hudgins, pastor of the Baptist Church, and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, retired pastor of that church. Interment will be in Poplar Springs [sic; Spring] Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CHARLES HERBERT TURNER Charlie Herbert Turner, 79, retired farmer and resident of Franklin, died at the home on the Franklin-Courtland Boulevard of his daughter, Mrs. Catherine Turner Pile, on Monday morning, February 21, after several months of failing health. The deceased was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Jane Bunch Turner and the son of the late Matthew and Lucille Lamkin Turner [sic*] of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of its Bruner Bible Class. Besides Mrs. Pile he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Harvey W. Cutchins [sic; Cutchin*], Mrs. Leroy H. Vaughan and Miss Marie Turner, all of Franklin; two sons, Charlie Herbert Turner, Jr., of Suffolk and Matthew Turner of Franklin; a brother, Richard J. Turner of Zuni; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Turner of Smithfield. Services for Mr. Turner were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were R.H. Allen, H.E. Byrd, Richard E. Carter, Gardner E. Cobb, John L. Eley, Jr., Thomas M. Grizzard, R.R. Lankford and Ashley Vaughan. D.Cert. 4908 (Franklin #13) also gives his mother as Lucile Lamkin; his daughter Catherine was the informant. His mother was Celia A. PRESSON (1846 - 1921), daughter of Robert & Elizabeth (EDWARDS) PRESSON. She m. Matthew Everett TURNER (b. 1847), son of Everett & Patience TURNER, 13 Nov 1868, in Isle of Wight Co.
