All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE WILLIAM* TURNER DREWRYVILLE - George William* Turner, 71, well-known farmer of the Drewryville community, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital at 5:30 o’clock Friday morning, July 18, after an illness of several weeks. A native of Southampton County, the deceased was the son of Mrs. Anna Barton* Turner and the late George William Turner. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, in which he had been active for many years. Besides his mother he is survived by two brothers, Percy B. Turner of Emporia and Vernon L. Turner of Drewryville; one sister, Mrs. W.B. McPherson of Roanoke; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Turner were conducted at Hebron Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock by Rev. William W. Stennett, pastor of the church and Rev. William S. Ferguson of Emporia, formerly pastor of Persons Methodist Church. Burial was in Capron Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Collis Davis, Otis Davis, Gordan Grizzard, Allen Harris, A.D. Lewis, Allen Partridge, Amos Pope, Roy Ricks and Howard C. Simmons. A typo gives his mother's maiden name as BRADEN. Her maiden name was BARDEN, not Barton (a common confusion).
