He was the oldest son of Samuel and Mrs. Lucy Ann Davis Turner and was born at the old homestead near Trinity Church September 5, 1870. He was married on April 28, 1898, to Miss Dora M. Lankford who died in a few years. To this union were born a son, J. Rosser Turner who died March 25, 1932, and a daughter, Mrs. R.C. Bulls. On October 30, 1902, he was married to Miss Sarah E. Scott, who with their son, Samuel C. Turner, his daughter, Mrs. Bulls and a grandson, R.C. Bulls, Jr., survive him. He is also survived by a brother, W.J. Turner of Holland, a sister, Mrs. J.R. Wade of Sedley, three half brothers, R.E.L. Turner of Portsmouth, S.P. Turner of Suffolk and A.W. Turner of Franklin and a number of nieces and nephews. He joined Trinity M.E. Church in his home community as a boy; later his membership was transferred to Nottoway Church and upon making his home in Sedley he united with Grace Memorial M.E. Church. In the three churches he was a active and faithful member, serving as a steward and Sunday school superintendent for many years. In the death of Mr. Jimmie Turner, as he was so well known, the community and county have been called upon to give up one of their most useful and highly esteemed citizens. It can truly be said of him his chief strength, his noblest distinction, was of the heart. He was candid, sincere and conscientious. He truly understood the obligations of a Christian and the precepts of Christ found a beautiful illustration in his life. The funeral services were conducted from his home at two o’clock Thursday afternoon by his Pastor, Rev. A.W. Roten, assisted by Rev. Jesse A. Stanfield, Rev. F.P. Davis and Rev. H.B. Owen, in the presence of an unusually large assemblage of relatives and friends. The choirs of the village churches sang "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." There were many handsome floral offerings and the casket was covered with a pall of carnations, fern and rosebuds. Active pallbearers were H.H. Chappell, J.D. Owen, K.G. Howell, T.W. Blythe, J.E. Beale and T.F. Hundley. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. Interment was made in Rosemont Cemetery.
