Roy M. Upton 

  BRANCHVILLE - Roy Melvin Upton, 63, died in Southampton Memorial Hospital. 

  A native of Jackson, N.C., he had lived in Branchville for three years and 
was a logger for J.L. Hancock.  He was the husband of Alice Rachael [sic; 
Rachel] Acey Upton.  Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry 
Michael Upton and James Upton of Martinsville; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Marie 
Bryant and one brother, Leslie Upton, both of Rich Square, N.C. 

  The body was taken to W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home.  Funeral arrangements are 
pending.

He was the son of Cornelius Godwin and Estelle (HARRELL) UPTON.  His widowed 
   mother (1892 - 1954) was buried in the UPTON family cemetery, Rich Square, 
   Northampton Co., NC. 

His WW-II draft card gives b. "Burtie" [Bertie] Co., NC, son of 
   Cornelius Garden UPTON. 

He 1m. Annie JONES (b. 6 Mar 1918),daughter of Will and Laura JONES, 
   21 Jan 1933 in Northampton Co., NC.  She was murdered 16 Aug 1958 
   in Sedley, and was buried in Jackson, NC.

He 2m. Gladys Frances (COGGSDALE) BABB 16 Mar 1959 in Southampton Co.  They 
   div. in 1966.  She 3m. Archie BLYTHE.  Gladys (1925-1984) is buried in 
   Southampton Memorial Park - Gethsemane, Plot 259.

   (Nansemond Co. license). 

His brother Leslie UPTON (1920 - 1978) murdered his brother-in-law Roscoe 
    GREGORY 21 Apr 1962 in Carrsville.  Leslie is buried in Cedar Lawn 
    Cemetery, Rich Square, Northampton Co., NC.
