Umphlett, formerly Miss Cora Cutchin, was born on June 27, 1887. At the age of twelve years she united with the Black Creek Baptist Church where she was a tireless and devoted worker. In the year of 1907*, Miss Cutchin married William J. Umphlett and from that date until the time of her death on December 27*, 1927, Mrs. Umphlett was a beautiful example of a Christian wife and mother, devoted always to the welfare of her husband and her children. Among the most conspicuous traits of her character was her pronounced love of flowers. Mrs. Umphlett is survived by her husband, W.J. Umphlett, and eight children, namely: Bernice, Zellie, Janie, Jessie, Cora, Carroll, Joseph Ashby and Wm. J., Jr. The mother, three sisters and four brothers also survive the deceased who died at the age of 40 years*. The funeral services were conducted at 2 o’clock on Thursday afternoon at Union Christian Church by Rev. F.C. Lester, who was assisted by Rev. R.P. Welch of Black Creek Baptist Church. The body bearers were Geo. H. Parker, Patrick Peters, Edgar Jackson, J.F. Bryant, Jr., R.R. Lankford, V.C. Lankford, H.A. Lankford and A.J. Scott.
