Louis Umphlett, 70, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church by the Revs. J.W. Horne and Alvin Powers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were J.R. Saunders, Herman Bowden, Walter Joyner, J.W. Hedgepeth, Terry Hedgepeth, Russell Willis, Goode Joyner and Roger Britt. He died Wednesday morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. The husband of Mrs. Iris Gay Umphlett, he was a retired Southampton County farmer. He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni Ruritan Club, Zuni Hunt Club and Woodman of the World. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Moody E. Munford of Sedley, Mrs. Earl Billups, Mrs. David W. Kitchen and Mrs. Willard L. Peden of Zuni; two sisters, Mrs. Martha U. Rhodes of Suffolk and Mrs. James L. Martin of Williamsburg; a brother, Gordon L. Umphlett of New York; and eight grandchildren.
