Umphlet of this community, died at her home February 11, in the 42nd year of her life. She is survived by her husband; five children; a brother, J.C. Carr of the Franklin community; two half- brothers, Willie Joyner of Suffolk and Solomon Joyner of Petersburg, and one half-sister, Mrs. Lizzie Dalton of Petersburg. Mrs. Umphlet was a loyal and consistent member of Union Christian Church, and a faithful and self-sacrificing wife and mother. Interment was made in Beaver Dam Cemetery, amid a profusion of beautiful floral tributes, the love of flowers being one of the distinguishing characteristics in the home. The pallbearers were: R.C. Councill, B. Drake, C.J. Joyner, C.T. Turner, Robert Blythe and A.J. Scott. Rosa F. (CARR; Mrs. "Willie" W.W.) The 1900 Census (Windsor Dist. {#17}, IoW.Co.) gives b. Feb 1891. She m. 29 Jan 1912, in Halifax, NC. The 1920 Census shows the couple at Williams Xrds (Franklin Dist. {#212}, Southampton Co.), with 4 children. Her parents, Solomon CARR & Hattie E. ALLEN, m. 5 Sep 1889. (IoW.Co. M.Reg. {BVS copy} p. 198 #22) Widowed, her mother - a native of Crawford Co., PA, 2m. W. Irvin JOYNER, 19 Feb 1895. (IoW.Co. M.Reg. {BVS copy} p. 222 #8) However, the D.Certs. of some of Irvin & Hattie's children say that Hattie was b. in Wisconsin - specifically Eagle Rock, in one instance.
