Umphlette, 97, died in a Westhaven (Conn) Veterans Hospital Sunday. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Lonnie R. and Mrs. Lizzie Bradshaw Umphlette. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. He worked for Rose Garden Restaurant in Hamden, Conn. Surviving are three brothers, J. Louis Umphlette Jr. of Zuni, and Gordon L. Umphlette Jr. of Stony Point, NY; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha U. Rhodes of Windsor and Mrs. Mamie Martin of Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 pm in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev William Kissinger. Burial will be in Tucker Swamp Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of J. Louis Umphlette near Zuni. Ulysses S.
