All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM WAFF UMPHLETT William Waff Umphlett, 47* years of age of the Franklin community, was found dead in his room on Monday morning of this week at 6 o’clock. The family, upon hearing the noise of the gun hastened to his room and found him shot through the head. Mr. Umphlett had been in ill health and was suffering from a nervous breakdown. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert Gardner, Misses Ruth and Willie May Umphlett, and two sons, Wesley and R. Frank Umphlett of Franklin; two brothers, L.R. Umphlett of Zuni, George C. Umphlett of Portsmouth and a half-brother, Hersey Underwood of Franklin. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Black Creek Church, conducted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: R.C. Councill, Harvey Cutchins, Herbert Councill, Robert Gardner, Joe Cutchins, D.C. Gillette, William Wester and Jimmy Blythe.
