JAMES THOMAS UNDERWOOD

   FRANKLIN - James Thomas Underwood, 53, a machinist for Union-Camp Corp., 
died early Thursday in Norfolk General Hospital after a short illness.

   A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Annie Laurie 
Applewhite Underwood and a son Edward Thomas and Mrs. Emmett Bryant Underwood 
of Southampton County.

   He was a member of High Street Methodist Church and its Men’s Bible Class.

   Besides his widow, surviving are a son, James Thomas Underwood, Jr., and a 
daughter, Miss Nancy Lou Underwood, both of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Emily 
Clemons of Cincinnati; and a brother, Fred F. Underwood of Franklin.

   A funeral service will be held in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Chapel 
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Robert D. Fridley of High Street Methodist 
Church.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.

   FRANKLIN - A funeral service for James Thomas Underwood was conducted 
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert 
D. Fridley of High Street United Methodist Church.  Burial was in Riverside 
Cemetery, Courtland.

   Pallbearers were Dan Rideout, Thomas Vincent, Robert Turner, John 
Underwood, Fred F. Underwood Jr., and Hereford Bryant.

   Underwood, 53, a machinist for Union Camp Corp., died early Thursday in 
Norfolk General Hospital after a short illness.
