All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH CRAWFORD UNDERWOOD Joseph Crawford Underwood, 46, a native of Southampton County and a resident of Portsmouth for the past several years, died in a hospital there on Thursday night, March 17. The son of the late Edward Thomas and Mrs. Emily Irene Bryant Underwood of Courtland, he was a member of High Street Methodist Church, Franklin. He was a employee of the Tyree-Jones Motor Company of Portsmouth. Surviving are two daughters, Misses Dorothy May and Patricia Underwood, both of Capron; one sister, Mrs. Harry Clements of Carthage, N.Y.; and three brothers, John I. Underwood of Boykins and James Thomas and Fred F. Underwood, both of Franklin. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. James W. Turner, pastor of High Street Methodist Church. Pallbearers were Sheppard Bell, Francis E. Clark, L.C. Doughty, Jack Story, Walter L. Young and Sam Young.
