Vick of the Branchville community died at his home on Sunday, April 7, at the close of a long and useful life, spent in ministering to his family, in service to his neighbors and loyalty to his church and in living the simple, honest, God-fearing life characteristic of the honorable, conscientious, American citizen of the country communities of the South. Mr. Vick was 75 years old, and is survived by his widow Mrs. Margaret Jane Vick; by five sons, J.H., W.H., R.D., Cicero and Elnor Vick; by three daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Grizzard, Mrs. Maggie A. Bryant and Mrs. Elizabeth G. Grizzard; by three brothers, J.S. Vick of Norfolk County, J.B. Vick of Northampton County, N.C., and E.S. Vick of Hertford County, N.C. and one sister, Mrs. Lois Shoulders of Northampton County, N.C. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church and the funeral services were conducted from his late residence on Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. H.P. Dalton interment following in the family burial plot. The pallbearers were his five sons and three sons-in-law, Messrs. W.T. Grizzard, J.J. Grizzard and R.A. Bryant. It had been suggested that his first name was Ernest, and that his middle name was Richard. His death certificate (1918-374-11080) unfortunately gives only his initials E.R.
