Vick, 74, died at his home in Branchville at 3:05 o’clock Saturday morning, January 24, after a long illness. He was the son of the late Elias Rowland and Margaret Jane Harris Vick. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Harris Vick; one son, R.D. Vick, Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. E.W. Kelly of Bristol, Pa., Mrs. L.W. Grizzard of Branchville and Mrs. Hugh Barrett, Jr. of Newsoms; and six grandchildren. A brother, Elner R. Vick, passed away only three weeks ago, on January 2. One brother, W.H. Vick, and two sisters, Mrs. W.T. Grizzard and Mrs. R.A. Bryant, all of Branchville, also survive. Mr. Vick was for many years a merchant. More than 40 years ago he and his brother-in-law, John Z. Harris, operated a store in Franklin, moving from there back to Branchville, where each had his own store. He was a member of the Branchville Baptist Church, the Men’s Bible class of that church; and he was treasurer of the Sunday school. Funeral services were conducted at the Branchville Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. N.B. Habel officiating, assisted by Rev. M.W. Anderson. John T. Darden sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. L.O. Tyler at the organ. The casket was covered by a pall of white carnations and iris. Interment was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Active pallbearers were Clarence Curling, Winston Farley, Dr. J.J. Grizzard, Thomas Grizzard, Tommie Grizzard, Victor Grizzard, A.B. Harris and M.E. Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Bible class and other friends of the family.
