He was the husband of Mrs. Claudia Ethel Vaughan and a son of James Henry and Mrs. Missouri Ann Joyner Vaughan. He was a lifelong resident of the Franklin community and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. T. Rowland Felton of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Addie Blythe of Handsom; a granddaughter, Mrs. James A. Smith of Franklin; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins of Franklin Baptist Church and the Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner of Henderson, N.C. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were C.W. Vaughan, Jr., E.W. Vaughan, W.D. Lindsey, Ashley M. Vaughan, Leroy Vaughan and Cecil Vaughan.
