High Street, Franklin early Sunday morning January 9, after a brief illness, were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock with Rev. James W. Turner, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Gay Bryant, John M. Camp, Jr., W.M. Camp, Jr., Philip Frankfort, Joe Bynum Gay, G. Hinson Parker, R. Ashby Rawls, Jr., John E. Ray, 3rd, and Dr. W.E. Snipes. A native of Franklin, Miss Vaughan was born November 3, 1893. She was the daughter of the late Gen. Cecil Crawley Vaughan and Mrs. Kate Keith Vaughan. She received her education at Franklin Female Institute, Randolph-Macon Institute, Danville, and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg. At the last named institution she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Long active in the social and civic life of the town and community, Miss Vaughan was a member of High Street Methodist Church and the Cora V. Camp circle of its woman’s Society of Christian Service. Miss Vaughan was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the First Families of Virginia, the Descendants of the Knights of the Garter, and the Virginia Society for the Preservation of Antiquities. She was also an active member of the Franklin Library Board, the Franklin Music Club, the Franklin Garden Club, the Woman’s Auxiliary of Raiford Memorial Hospital, and the Cypress Cove Country Club. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Charles Lee Smith of Raleigh, N.C. and Mrs. Clifford A. Cutchins, Jr., of Franklin; a brother, Cecil C. Vaughan, 3rd of Franklin; two nieces, Mrs. Edwin F. DeMoss of Nashville, Tenn., and Miss Katherine V. Cutchins of Franklin; one nephew, Clifford A. Cutchins, 3rd, of Franklin; three grand-nephews, Clifford A. Cutchins, 4th, William W. Cutchins and Cecil Vaughan Cutchins, all of Franklin; one grandniece, Sarah Keith DeMoss of Nashville, Tenn.; and an aunt, Mrs. R.J. Camp of Franklin.
