All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LUCY MOORE APPLEWHITE VAUGHAN Mrs. Lucy Applewhite Vaughan, 85, a resident of Courtland and a native of Southampton County, died early Sunday morning, April 15, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maie Babb, after an illness of many months. Mrs. Vaughan was the wife of the late Thomas Vaughan and the daughter of the late Albert Moore and Laura Saunders Applewhite of Southampton County. She was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church. Surviving her are four* daughters, Mrs. Virginia V. Whitehead and Mrs. Lucy V. Worrell; three sons, Thomas Vaughan, Emmett R. Vaughan and Roland L. Vaughan, all of the Courtland community; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, B.R. Applewhite of Courtland and a sister, Mrs. Dollie Dickens of Pope, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. C. A. McCormick, Jr., pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Active pallbearers were Lewis Babb, Allen Worrell, David Babb, Wilbur Whitehead, Alvin Whitehead and Leslie V. Whitehead.
